Chromic Gut sutures are absorbable sterile surgical sutures composed of purified connective tissue (mostly collagen) derived from the serosal layer of beef (bovine) or the submucosal fibrous layer of sheep (ovine) intestines, which are treated with a chromic salt solution.This treatment will help to extend the resorption time up to 90 days.

This type of suture is commonly used for tissues that require prolonged support during the early stages of wound healing, such as flap closures in vertical or horizontal ridge augmentation surgeries.

They are packaged in a solution of 89% isopropanol, 10% water and 1% triethanolmine.
